BREAKOUT ARTIST SID SIMONS UNVEILS “DEAD RINGER”

NEW ALBUM BENEATH THE BRIGHEST SMILES SLATED FOR RELEASE EARLY NEXT YEAR

"Simons’ music features a mix of grooves and group harmonies along with fuzzy guitar tones and melancholic songwriting reminiscent of the ’00s indie icons that once dominated the scene"—NME

“…his music has since evolved in new directions, incorporating hints of ‘60s soul, ‘70s glam, early aughts indie rock, and Americana.” —Under The Radar

October 27, 2023—Rising Brooklyn-based artist Sid Simons unveils a new song “Dead Ringer” from their forthcoming album Beneath the Brightest Smiles. Listen/share HERE.

“A little while ago, I ended up in a new city. It was the most homogeneous, unsettling place I’d ever seen. It was like a repeating pattern wallpaper with rows and rows of identical houses. Identical humans in identical chinos. It looked like a dystopian future. It felt like a nightmare and I wondered how creativity could exist in a place like that? Or perhaps all that endless sameness was a great inspiration for art? After all, it did inspire this song.”

Beneath the Brightest Smiles also features “Wendy,” which gained attention when Sid was stopped on the street by popular account Discovering Artists IRL—watch the clip HERE. The viral video has accumulated over 15 million views across Instagram and TikTok. “Wendy” has over 1 million streams across all streaming platforms and continues to climb, propelling Sid to over 250k monthly listeners on Spotify.

The forthcoming new album reflects Sid’s multicultural and globe-hopping upbringing. It was created in collaboration with Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor, Blonde Redhead) and recorded with his band—The Darlings—at Mercy Sound Recording Studio in the East Village.

Currently based in Brooklyn, Sid was born in Portland, Oregon but raised in Sydney, Australia. He then moved to New York in his early teens, but attended high school in Shanghai, China, before returning to New York. There, instead of finishing his final year of school, he climbed into a van and headed off on a several month-long road trip around the country.

Sid is joined by his band The Darlings—Sammi Katzmann (sax), Zach Saffo (guitar), Huxley Kuhlmann (keys), Noah Scott Boling (drums) and Jensen Gore (bass). Sid Simons and The Darlings have played shows with Franz Ferdinand, Modern English and more.

On October 31, they’ll be playing the now-famous 18th annual Halloween show at Knockdown Center in Queens, performing as David Bowie for a cover set—buy tickets HERE.
