HUNTSVILLE’S ORION AMPHITHEATER NOMINATED FOR AMPHITHEATER OF THE YEAR AT 2024 IEBA AWARDS, RECEIVES SUSTAINABILITY AWARD FROM VENUESNOW

THIRD CONCERT SEASON UNDERWAY INCLUDING UPCOMING PERFORMANCES FROM KINGS OF LEON, BILLY STRINGS, STURGILL SIMPSON, JOHN LEGEND, BENSON BOONE, DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS AND MANY MORE

September 13, 2024—Continuing to receive widespread accolades, Huntsville’s Orion Amphitheater is nominated for Amphitheater of the Year at the 2024 IEBA Awards—their third-consecutive IEBA nomination. Additionally, The Orion recently received a sustainability award for their on-site Artist Garden from VenuesNow’s Excellence in Concessions Awards.

Of the nomination, Managing Director Ryan Murphy shares, “It’s an incredible honor to be nominated, yet again, by a prestigious and respected organization such as IEBA. It brings me great pride to know that the amazing work that the team does here is recognized by not only the artists, managers and fans - but also the industry at large.”

One of The Orion’s many sustainability initiatives, the Artist Garden provides fresh produce and herbs for artist and crew catering as well as food and cocktails served to guests at the venue. Since The Orion opened in May 2022, the garden has produced more than 325 pounds of fruit and vegetables and operates on a closed loop system, which limits waste and allows for complete control over cultivation methods, resulting in healthier and safer food.

Additional sustainability initiatives at The Orion include their reusable cup program, extensive on-site recycling and investments in renewable energy. Additionally, $1 from each drink order at their Carbon bar will be donated to Tennessee Riverkeeper this season to help protect the surrounding rivers and wildlife.

The accolades add to yet another notable year for The Orion, which is in the midst of its third concert season. The fall schedule includes upcoming performances from renowned artists such as Kings of Leon, Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, John Legend, Benson Boone, Drive-By Truckers, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Whiskey Myers and many more. Additionally, The Orion will once again host numerous community-focused events this year including the CulturA Festival and Rocket City Pridefest as well as several other annual local favorites. See below for complete schedule to date.

Additionally, The Orion has partnered with Odette’s Chef Josh Quick for a new brick and mortar dining option on-site this season. Committed to providing the best guest experience, The Orion will also expand its in-seat service this year in addition to open seating areas in the concourses just steps away from Murphy’s Law and Isadora’s. The Orion will also continue to offer local activations before all upcoming shows, while Jeff & Blues will remain open post-show with additional entertainment. This season, both The Orion and Jeff & Blues will offer a new exclusive Helles Lager, which was created by Yellowhammer Brewing and features flavor profiles inspired by European tradition and classic recipes.

This season adds to another landmark year for The Orion, which was recently selected as the “Top East Coast Amphitheater” on Billboard’s 2024 Top Music Venues list—one of just 26 venues across the world to be highlighted—ranked #33 on Pollstar’s 2023 Top 50 Worldwide Amphitheaters list (ranked by amount of ticket sales globally), was selected as Best Venue by Huntsville Event Magazine and Huntsville Business Journal, and was nominated for Amphitheater of the Year at the 2023 and 2022 IEBA Awards. Additionally, The Orion hosted 32 concerts and 83 community and cultural events last year, welcoming some of music’s biggest names such as Lana Del Rey, Brandi Carlile, Snoop Dogg, James Taylor, Phish, Billy Strings, Widespread Panic, Ja Rule and Ashanti, Turnpike Troubadours, Weezer and many more. With these shows, The Orion sold over 187,800 tickets, with nearly half being sold outside the state of Alabama.
